It was very well attended. In fairnesss, I have to say that sometimes a buffet runs into this problem. You can have more larger eaters than is average (I'm one of them when I can) and when tickets are purchased at the last minute that can effect the outcomes as well. The caterers that I use usually add 5 - 7% more food as a buffer. If I am going to sell tickets or accept reservations after I've given a count, I add an additional percentage of total left available in an attempt to avoid what happened.
