I sent this to all Board members--Helen

Since the Board email is down,I have to send individually. As I understand
it,no Illustrations were sent with this Text Format, with possibly adding new
Illustrations later on,but still doing it without members vote or input. For
now,I am addressing the problem with the text format of the Standard that was
just sent to the Board.
In1994, the AKC was approving judges for ALL the breeds at an astonishing
rate. They were receiving complaints that all Standards were written
differently, according to each Parent Club's wishes . So in 1994,the AKC
decided that
ALL Standards would be re-formatted into a uniform, required Standard
format, for all the breeds, starting with General Appearance, and ending with
Disqualifications. A moratorium of 5 yrs was declared in which no Standard
could be
changed, After that ,the AKC would accept amendments only after club
membership
approval and within the uniform required Standard format.
The product that was just sent to the Board, would not be allowed by the
AKC. What you are proposing is that after each section of the uniform
Standard, a paragraph is inserted written by John Ayotta, explaining the
previous
paragraph. In other words ,after the first Standard paragraph( General
Appearance ),his paragraph follows explaining, and interpreting what the
Standard is
saying. The the next section of the standard is written, followed ,again by his
explanation and interpretation and so on,through the Entire Standard.
I have a real problem with this. Not only would the AKC not allow
OPINIONS to be added to the Standard, but I personally resent anybody telling
me how
to interpret the Standard. Now if you were going to write an article, say for
Dog News,or even our Review, and you presented our Standard with these
paragraphs of explanation--or if you were instructing a club or a Seminar on
GSDs,with explanatory sheets attached, that's a different ball game.
But you absolutely can't make it a part of the Standard. No matter what
the Board ends voting upon,it is imperative that you involve the membership
You
will get nowhere trying to delay and then surprising us with new
Illustrations in Sept, and trying to ram this thing through--Helen Miller Fisher
