Therapy dogs also help children learn to read! We are in the third year of
the program I started at the school where I work. Selected children read
to therapy dogs and their handlers. They start out unable to read and
finish at proficiency or better. The children's self-esteem increases.
Their attendance and class participation improve. Several families have
also gotten dogs as a result of the Reading Buddies Dogs. My 12 1/2 year
old GSD, Dax, is much loved by the children, and she loves participating
in the sessions.
