Great blog today, Barbara. My mentor in shepherds taught me what to look for
in a show puppy and it applies to all breeds. I saw the traits in one of my
Tibetan Spaniel puppies once and he went on to go Winners Dog at our national
from the 6-9 puppy class. He finished 6 weeks later and today is a great
special. He only shows for me but he really puts out and I love to show him.
I wish I'd had a German Shepherd with that attitude, but I never did. Well, I
did have one who liked to show. When I was training him in obedience, he did
not want to do it one day so I had to switch collars and leads on him and run
him up and down the road to show him we would still do the other and then he
went back to behaving during his obedience training. These dogs can be too
smart at times! And this same dog used to be on the shy side. He did a
complete change when someone ringside at a show used his fur to warm her hands.
That was all it took for him to love dog shows. Shepherds are amazing!
