THAT is a great story, Zoe. Thanks for sharing. I had a spayed Beagle that
did bring in milk and nursed a kitten I found whose eyes had not opened yet.

Female Hormones RULE!!!!

And, yes, "Oh that we were as unjudgemental as them"

Subject: THE NATURE OF OUR DOGS

I am sitting here with my OLD cat - whose life is definitely winding down. She
stopped eating
kibble last week and will only eat canned meat - she refuses real meat.

She came to live with us some 16 years ago, and all the dogs that lived with
her then are now
long gone.

I reflected briefly this morning on her first days with us.

She was feral, and not human friendly. WE had to keep her in a crate and get
her used to us
more than the dogs. The woman who gave her to me at work had obviously taken
her away from
her mother before she was weaned.

I had her loose in the living floor as soon as I could hold her without getting
clawed and bitten.
Was much less than a pound and soon decided that her favourite place to hang
out was in my
child's t shirt in her cleavage peeping out at the world

My alpha bitch came in and immediately spotted this small bundle of fur on the
floor and lay
down next to her. SHe tried to nurse her, but had no milk. This bitch then
went outside, aught
the hugest RAT I have ever seen ( seemed like it was a 5 pounder!) and placed
in on the floor
near her puppy/kitten. When she realized the kitten could not eat this
sumptuous feast that she
had provided, she started to chew and on the rat so she could feed it like a
wolf in the wild.

I immediately got the rat from her clutches and returned it to the woods.

She tended to this kitten until the day she left us - just like she did with
her daughter who left us
last year.

This is the nature of our dogs

Oh that we were as unjudgemental as them
