I didn't notice him limping on the way to the ring, so it wasn't blatant. But as soon as he was in the ring, I could see it and so could the judge. BUT, apparently my dog's being excused would have broken the major in dogs. The judge spoke to the handler and left him in the ring. Of course, he didn't place. The next day, he was fine and showed. I'm not savvy enough about dog shows to know if that was right or wrong or just a call the judge is allowed to make.
