[ SHOWGSD-L ] Stud Dog Fees Feedback

Someone asked me to share with the rest of the List about the results of
what people thought about stud dog fees. They wanted to know what some
people who wrote to me privately had to say. Well five people who wrote
to me told me about a dog whose stud fee is $850! Three of them told me
the name of the dog. From what I gather, people will and do pay this
kind of fee because the dog is being used. He's a young dog. I wonder
what his stud fee will be in two years time???? I guess it's what the
market will bear. Others told me that they breed according to their
budget. Many people can't afford to pay this high of a fee with all the
other expenses added in. Then there are those who offer a champion or
ROM bitch a free stud service or reduced fees. I have had people offer
me free stud services on one of my bitches several times already. I
know some people will do this to help prove a young stud dog. I have
NEVER bred to a friends stud dog because of friendship. I ALWAYS breed
to a dog because I think he might be good for my bitch. In other words,
I don't just breed to get a free litter. Many people said that the stud
fee was the least of the expense for breeding a litter and that stud
fees didn't matter to them. Others feel that some stud fees are too
high and that some people are pricing themselves out of the market.
Naturally it's good when you breed to a dog who has proven himself by
the progeny he has on the ground, but I will take a chance on a young
dog who has what I'm looking for in conformation and temperament as well
as looking at his pedigree. I have always been a big believer in
looking at the dogs grandparents. Well there you have it. Best
