The National does not have to be "easy" to make it right. It is a Tough show
with a lot of competition and a lot of work just in preparation and training,
traveling and competing...all of it is a huge effort for anyone participating.
Getting there is no exception. It takes a year to get ready for the
National....from saving the funds, training your dog...finding Hotels...lining
up handlers or
whatever. If you have worked for a year with a dog or dogs...made all the
arrangements and driven or flown ANYWHERE to compete in a National......you
will already know that!!
We in the West are not complaining just because it's just 'too far and too
hard'. It is just plain WRONG to stay in St. Louis no matter where we live!
No doubt it should be as "reasonable" as is possible for ALL every three
years by rotating sites....or four years if you want four sites. That way we
are given a choice and some of us can say no to that particular site because
of the ring size, surface or location and hope for another the following year.
Been there...done that. THIS leaves us no alternative.
No matter how we argue the location.....technically it should be at least a
reasonable location as possible for 2/3 of the members to get there every two
or three years! OR...we can break it up into 1/4s. No problem...it's just
more difficult to find FOUR reasonable sites. ( I'm looking for
"simple" here for this discussion )
Splitting this Country into thirds.....and then fussing about the exact
distance of a North East corner...or South East corner puts us north of Canada
in Maine..( with Toronto, Canada being easier to get to ) ..and South of
everything in the tip of Florida in Miami; and maybe Brownsville Texas our
South Central location....or for that matter....Alaska for the North West! I
prefer we try to be realistic! Or else we spend a lot of time resenting those
Central to everything..<G>.....and that also is a waste of time.
Maybe I am so stupid I need an education on Geography....but it just seems
easier on the Board, the National Chair and whomever has to help look for sites
to just stick with splitting the Country into three sections across the span of
the U.S....?? Admittedly and sadly it will never be completely easy or fair
for some who do live in a "far out" extreme location. ie. Alaska &
Hawaii....P.R.
After that I suppose you can argue about every little minutia if you so
choose..............<G>

Very true! A friend of mine who lives in the north east drove 23.5 hours... On
the way home and they were hurrying! It took a bit longer to get there...
Certainly not close to Purina. That family has attended other events instead
of returning due to the logistics of going to Purina again.
I wonder how many people made that first trip to Grey Summit that did not
return because of the drive, time, and expense for travel. But on a good
note, yesterday I saw petrol for $1.99/gal for regular! Strongly hoping that
it continues to drop for all our sakes making the drive JP&P

I wonder if you forgot that the East is about as far from St. Louis as is the
West. It is a hardship for many in the East also. Please don't call it
GSDC.EAST! That is simply not fair.
Anne, GEORGIA which is closer by far than NY, VA New England etc.
