You mean the cost of traveling in an RV? I don't know.To be honest,.I probably would never own an RV..I don't need another home to take care of, clean and maintain! The idea of room service and someone making my bed every morning..sort of appeals to me! As for traveling...cross country.Bart and Cindy did..and took two of our dogs plus about 8-9 others..we flew with the puppy as we felt..he had less on the road traveling experience..and would be more of a pain. BTW, flying..and having to get out of the crate in the airport terminal with all the commotion going on was great experience for the puppy..the more they get exposed to..the better off they are..I think Tiffany and Joann also drove..maybe even Kevin Reynolds drove...you would have to ask them about the actual cost of traveling. This year we will drive the astro van..it is about a 12 hour trip. It looked like the RV spot was the place to be. Too bad we couldn't pack that show-site and take it where ever we wanted to hold the national. Everything was so close together. I don't know if you made it to herding but it was just 15 minutes from the show grounds. I think the RVs are going to be the new way to get to the national. Would you be willing to share the cost of traveling this way with the list. We have time before the 2005 national to consider our options. Thanks Terry Steve Grainger <hckryhillgsd@xxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Has anyone ever heard of a bench show? used to be dogs were crated at all-breed shows..all day long..right in the mix of what was going on. Stress for the dogs? How do guide dogs and other service dogs handle the stress, noise traffic..are they "protected" from the world they live in? I agree with Tari..adaptability is one of the hallmarks of our breed...perhaps at times we treat our dogs too much like they are "hot house" flowers instead of the hardy and adaptable breed they were intended to be (or should be). In Oregon, we rented a large SUV so the dogs could travel with us to and from the show site..we exercised them and walked them at the show site...even though stalls were available..I can think of only once that I crated a dog in a stall..just so he would be on stand-by. We gave our dogs plenty of ex-pen time in the evening. those that didn't have ex-pens walked their dogs. Many of you speak of the "comradery" at the WDA style shows. Well just walk your dogs in the evening...you will meet people...strike up conversations..and every evening in Oregon...we were sitting pools side..with our dogs..talking about the breed..having a drink or two..and having a great time. Christine Grainger [Original Message] Amy, You are so right. A stall is a nice thing to have, but I don't feel it is a must. We have what? 9-10 mths before the National in North Carolina. Between now and then, you can adjust your dogs to some understanding that for 4-6 days they will be spending time in a crate. I find hotels which have allot of grass, and using a flexi lead take them out for many walks-even sometimes missing classes because my dogs need walked, but they are more important. They love this. At the Canadian Nationals, and in DelMar, we were constantly with dog under toe. Our GSD breed is such a versatile breed, that they can learn to adjust to this exact situation rather quickly. This is one of the true aspects we are to breed into our dogs,no? Tari Kridler http://members.aol.com/kridlersgsd Home of 2003 Amer. & Can. GVX Ch. Kridler's Ruby(Sel. Ex. Ch. However, The all-breed circuits don't have them and the dogs are crated in vans or kept in grooming areas. Do all the other Nationals of different breeds have stalls i wonder? Right now as we speak there are about 2 1/2 weeks worth of shows in Florida what we call the "winter circuit". It is a huge show and very popular,,,,they don't have stalls. But i bet those poor doggies wish they had stalls after spending 2 1/2 weeks crated in vans. I think we can manage without stalls, but it sure is great for the dogs to have them. The Canadian National never has stalls either (but they are 2 days shorter than we are), they have an awesome show, very well run, and i don't think anyone declines attending their wonderful national due to lack of stalls, but i could be wrong. Amy Safdir Almanya Shepherds www.almanyagsd.com ----- Original Message ----- This is so frustrating. Mike and I didn't go to Florida because there were no stalls being offered. I had no idea that once again this year, no stalls. How did this happen again? I like to have a stall so the dogs can be in their own space, relaxed and unstressed. Same for me. I like to have a place to get away from it all. Because we were able to drive to Albany, we brought a rug from home, chairs and lights. The dogs were very relaxed. It was like our living room. Now we have to figure out if we even want to go to the Nationals this year. Are we the only ones who want stalls? If the site doesn't offer them, move on. End of story.
