Sara, dogs shows were always dominated by the check writers. It was (and still
is at the highest levels) a wealthy man's sport. Westminster Kennel Club still
has only male members/officers. It has been since the1950's that middle-class
people started getting involved. Few women were involved in the earlier days.
Mrs. Dodge, and few other wealthy women, were exceptions to the rule.
Evan, remember what LaMar Kuhns said? "If Thoroughbred Horse Racing is the
Sport of Kings, showing German Shepherd Dogs is the Sport of
Queens............no pun intended!"
