Anyone noticed that all magazines are smaller than they used to be?
Anyone remember that the board decided there was going to be a strict limit to
how many pages of editorial content there could be based on how many ads there
are? And fewer people are showing and advertising. Performance people do not
feel as great a need to advertise the dog they are campaigning.
It is up to the club to decide if providing information to the membership is
what is important. What kind of information do we want to provide?Do we want to
provide a quality magazine to the membership that is more than the minutes?
I think it would be great if a pdf version of the magazine were available
online. I like the immediacy of online information, but often when you want to
go back and look at something, it is gone or has been changed. A paper product
stays.
As for corrections - providing the photos that were unavailable at some
previous time is not error correction. And other errors - we all make them and
I am glad when they are corrected. Can't comment on the cover picture as I have
not yet been to the PO box to pick up my magazine.
I do not spend as much time reading the Review - but I also do not spend as
much time reading Newsweek or Time or even National Geographic, and that goes
for most of us. i wish I did - but I don't.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Review
I like getting the Review every month but for a long time it has not been a
very big publication as one remembers from the past. I use to read and re-read
the Review for the whole month. Now I usually am done with it in a hour and it
gets stacked in the corner for storage for a later date. I do not even refer
back to it as in years past. That is because there is not the information one
would need and if there is, the computer now allows that information to be
searched more quickly and easily. It seems that the Review could be an every
other month publication. That would allow more information and cost much less
to produce. I have been getting my very old old Reviews out and going through
them. I love seeing the pedigrees and all the information is relevant today.
Our GSDCA website is the new tool we should all be using and enjoying. Did you
finish reading Pam Stoesser's article with Dave Rinke? I found this more
refreshing and "right on target" for our times. Of course Pam is an excellent
writer and computer person but her ability to get Mr. Rinke to talk so openly
about how he sees our breed from past to present was superb! Kudos to Pam!
Kudos to Mr. Rinke! And Kudos to the website committee for using the most up
to date tools to communicate with us all. The Board needs to read the article
along with all the members of the GSDCA. We really need to make tough choices
this year and years to come for the betterment of the breed. We really need to
cut out the things that are not cost effective and try new venues. If they
don't work don't keep doing it.
We are here in Illinois. We are middle aged people who enjoy GSD's and
conformation showing. We have done conformation exhibiting since 1983. We are
determining should we continue to show GSD's based on our income, the economy,
and the culture of the breed. We are in a paradigm shift based on the here and
now...What Will We Do? What Should the Board Do?
