It was all set to be all on the one site in Springfield. It was changed to be
benefical to a few people.

We were not all on site in Ohio! As you know, only Course C was on site. The
Course A people were hours away! That was really hard on those of us who were
also showing in conformation.

Herding is not away from the National site for any reason except that it is
very difficult to find a site that can handle
all at the same location along with Agility, Obed. and make everyone happy with
the seating, controlled temperature,
enclosed buildings, bathing / grooming / stalls, RV parking, and Obedience
and Agility facilities etc.
I disagree.
Herding is not with the National site because herding is far more work to set
up on site than obedience/rally/agility/breed or tracking.
Someone on the herding committee has to find suitable local-ish sheep
(preferably actually WORK them ahead of time with a GSD to prove their
suitability) then arrange to have them trucked in a couple days (minimum)
before the event to get comfortable with the site. Courses need to be measured,
fenced & laid out. Holding pens, if not available, must be built. Testing areas
set up, yada yada yada. THEN some advanced dog (GSD, preferably) should work
the sheep to ensure they are suitable come trial day.
The committee members choose to find a facility near-ish the National site so
they do not have to work their @sses off. Using an existing site allows the
committee members to walk in day-of & leave every night without wondering if
the site is cleaned up, the sheep are fed & watered, etc.
GSD Herders will do all this & more, to have their dogs showcased ON SITE at
the National. (Did you notice we were on site in OH?)
