The $55/60 fee to be a specialty judge is cheap compared to what it costs
me each show I judge. I live in the sticks in Louisiana and to fly to an
assignment is either 160 miles to New Orleans to fly east and 210 miles to
Houston to fly west. That is my problem and I absorb those costs because I
truly enjoy judging German Shepherd Dogs whatever the cost. I consider it
a privilege and honor to be asked by a specialty club to judge their show.
I could give you some lame reason as to why I judge, such as giving
something back to the breed etc. but the real reason I judge is that I love
judging, I learn something from each show I judge and I love the German
shepherd

I am with DD on this, I love the breed and am honored anytime I am asked to
judge. My only fees to clubs are hotel and transportation. Meals, pet
sitters, parking, HOURS and HOURS trying to catch a connecting flight after
missing the one I was supposed to be in because the club member taking me to
the airport was still taking the rings down and we were late.......I called
those "incidentals"....I am an avid reader and always travel with a few
books.
I don't agree with getting charged a fee because AKC is loosing revenue in
other areas, even if the first year is only $5. Mainly because it seems so
un-democratic. Pay or else....hmmm....
I will be asking for my pin and insurance before they start charging for
those....<G>
