Thank you Bonnie for being there for Rue. She certainly had us and the
vet buffaloed about whether she was having babies or not - LOL; We are all
grateful for the love and care you are giving her and especially opening your
home and heart to this young lady. What a wonderful belated Christmas gift
to all of us. Rue and her babies will be available for adoption in a few
months; Rue will be spayed before she leaves of course.
Weeping Willow has been so fortunate with the two pregnant GSDs that we
took in; one of our own GSD fancy listers (Bonnie Money) was able to step up
for Rue and one of our Board Members who is a lab rescue whelped Maizie late
this summer. We realize that not everyone could do this, of course, but
as we say there is always something in rescue for everyone *grin*.

Rue, the pregnant german shepherd surrendered to Weeping Willow GSD
Sanctuary a
couple of weeks ago, delivered two beautiful baby girls this morning. She
gave
me no warning - no temperature drop, and even ate a big breakfast around
5:00
this morning. I've been taking her temperature for the past few days and
took
her temp last night and this morning, everything seemed fine. I figured I
had
at least a couple more days. As I was walking out the door to go to work,
I
checked on the dogs as is my routine. Rue was acting strangely, licking
herself
and arcing her tail...hmmm, I knew what that meant. I changed clothes,
emailed
work that I'd be in late if at all, and checked on the cardigan puppies
now in
the kitchen, and this took about 10 minutes. Back out to check on Rue and
there
was a puppy! She did it all by herself. I moved Rue to the maternity
room
(laundry room) and got her and the baby settled. Within another hour, out
popped another little girl! Again, Rue had it all under control.
Babies weighed in at 20 oz and 19 oz! Big strapping girls. One is black
and
tan, and the other might be all black. Can't see any other color on her
yet.
I'm calling them Holly and Nicki, my holiday puppies.
Rue is a phenomenal dog! In just a little over 2 weeks, she has proven to
me
she is a gem, gentle, intelligent, and with basic obedience manners.
When Weeping Willow finds a forever home for her, that family will be
getting a
wonderful friend.
