We just had a PETLAND move into one of our strip malls. I decided to go there
to-day to see about dog food prices etc. as I go to the Quad cities or Rockford
to get my dry feed. Much to my surprise they have PUPPIES FOR SALE----12-15
puppies for sale. No GSD thank GOD. I was so upset that I found the manager and
asked him where they got these puppies---"We buy our puppies from a vendor that
buys them from certified breeders that are checked twice a year" Very
quietly--I told him he was buy (in the long run) from puppy mills and that was
not acceptable. He pulled me over and said "We are within the rules and I hope
you are not going to give us a problem." I just told him I was so disappointed
that they had not taken on the marketing of Pet Smart etc. that only display
animals on the weekend from the humane society. He said "Well you have to think
what you have to think". I then told him he had the dry feed I use but to be
assured I would not be buying it from Petlan
d.
They have little rooms for folks to "BOND" with these puppies---!
I talked to a couple of young girls that wanted to but an Akita puppy. Second
time back--ready to buy. I asked them if they had any idea how big this dog
would get and the expense his vet and feed bills would be. 'YA but he is so
darling". I left so sad.
