Well, in my case it is because I can't. Not that I don't want to, or don't
know how, LOL! I just cannot physically do so anymore. There are others
that fall into this category as well.
The other thing is that some GSDs do not show as well for their owners. I
have one like that. Even if I could show her, she just won't move out when I
show her. She would rather just be by my side.

Hi Everyone -
As a person who is new to GSD, but not to show dogs, I am wondering what
everyone's opinion of owner-handlers is. I come from a breed that is
predominantly owner-handled and we are quite successful too. I have NEVER
had a problem competing against handlers... but..... my question is....
Why do most people send their dogs out with handlers in GSD? Is it
tradition, is it the *ego* thing, is it because there is an art to showing a
GSD and most owners don't have the time or the where withall? Can *good,
experienced* owner-handlers who have trained and conditioned good dogs win
easily? What about at Specialty shows? How do most judges feel about it?
If you don't use owner-handled dogs - what is the most typical reason - lack
of condition? training?, etc?
Every curious (and just waiting to hear about the Hunte vote)
