Hi Sara,
As it would appear you tend to do, I used to view the world in only black and
white. It's either this or that. This is either true or it's fiction. As an
"A" personality I still struggle with this some in life, my job, etc. Your
perception is your reality. Unfortunately, that does not always equate to real
truth. And it takes some practice & humility reconciling that sometimes.

I read most of the responses to you and I did not read a consensus that the
breed has zero problems. I am very certain that most breeders, exhibitors, and
handlers in the GSD world would certainly each give you a list of issues within
the breed. I also do not believe any breed is without issue (whether health,
temperment, etc.) Breeding is just as much art as science, but there are no
guarantees. You breed dog A to dog B with the intentions of getting C, but
you get something completely different sometimes. Even very experienced and
succesful breeders will tell you this. Yes, some will lie to you. Some will
hide the issues in their lines. Most will be up front though. And I don't
believe the GSD community has a monopoly on issues, untruths, etc. We are just
a slice of society. There are many good people in our breed and hopefully you
find your path to one who you can work well with.
Just remember that more times than not the truth lies in the middle and as with
just about everything in life you have to be able to view situations, problems,
and disarray in shades of gray and make the best decision possible for you.

Well, this has certainly been quite educational for me. I can't say whether it
as been good or bad. But, judging by the posts and private e-mails (with the

I can see with my own eyes how loose the hind legs are and how the dogs can't
alk normal. So, you can all tell me that I am nuts and they would make the
deal herding dog but I don't buy it. I have to agree with everyone that has
pproached me about this GSD condition. It's not ok. If this is what wins in
he AKC and is the only thing than I am not interested. I can't do it. My first
SD as a kid (an unregistered white) didn't look like this and he was athletic,
ound, and healthy. As I start to show my GSD puppy, I was hoping that this look
asn't required but every year that goes by I see it more and more. I just
on't know why.
I wanted to express my frustration over hearing all the negativity from outside
he GSD world (which I agree with) and the fact that I have had experienced
reeders tell me that they can't get majors on their dog as it's too political.
o, if they can't do it how will I ever be able to do it? Will I have to be in
he breed for 50 years before I can finish my own dog?
Maybe all breeds are like this. I don't know. I don't care as I only care about
y breed.
So, sorry I bothered everyone trying to understand why this is all happening in
he breed and how it will effect me showing my dog. I truly find it upsetting.

Maybe the GSDCA isn't the right fit for me (which stinks as I am a new member

nd hearing "this breeder sells her good dogs but wouldn't to you". Blah-blah. I
on't like being called a liar either. Why is it important what other people
hink about the breed? Maybe because where there is smoke there is fire. I had
o sit through a whole freaking show with people coming up to me (who had met me
t UKC) and ask me why the breed is ruined and so deformed.. I DON'T KNOW.
