I will not argue that it is not humane, it is not.  My whole point is that the 
overpopulation of horses is a real problem, and now, with no where to take 
them, they are being left to fend for themselves in worse conditions than what 
an inhumane death has to offer.  It is NOT humane to starve to death, have 
rain rot all over the body etc etc etc., that death can take months   I know 
this sound like I am advocating killing horses, which I am not, I love horses, 
think they are one of the most noble creatures God created.  But it is going 
to be even worse this year, with the drought in the southern states, cattle 
ranchers are actually shipping cattle northward, cheaper than buying the hay.  
Hay is going for up to $100/bail (big round bail) in Oklahoma, and I'm sure 
there are other states effected like TX etc.  I have rescued the two drafts, 
one Llama and several dogs, please no one think I don't care.  There are no 
easy answers, and I agree with the
 fact that consumable horse meat in the US is not going to catch on quickly, if 
ever.  But I also know that euthanasia for a horse and having it shipped off 
is very costly, people who can not afford to feed them will NOT be able to 
afford to have them humanely put down.  So what exactly is the answer?  Most 
big meat packing places use the new more humane kill method (I believe it's 
called Temple Grace named after the Lady who advocated for this)  Perhaps the 
new horse slaughter houses need to be made to use that method.  There simply 
are no easy answers.
