I am glad you have had good luck. But some of us who have really hard
chewing dogs have had the misfortune of having to go to a canine
dentist for a dog's chipped or cracked teeth. My bitch had to have
two root canals and we even tried a titanium crown to save her canine
tooth.
The canine dental specialist that I saw for her in Michigan told me
that although nylabones are not bad for all dogs, they are very bad
for dogs that chew hard. He estimated that more than 90 per cent of
his work came from dogs that cracked their teeth chewing nylabones.
He said it is ironic, that the dogs that enjoy nylabones the most,
are exactly the dogs that should not have them.
Like the other poster, I have had more than one vet say that
nylabones are the major reason for cracked teeth in their practice.
I think this is like a lot of things in dogs. OK for some dogs, but
definitely not OK for all dogs. We all have to choose for ourselves
what risks we find acceptable. For most dogs, nylabones are probably
OK, as they usually do not chew them aggressively as adults.
