I have only been an actual member of the PC for about a month now. I
havebeen involved in the GSD breed for approximately 27 years. Those years
included several with my employer and security dogs. After being involved at
work with the GSD breed, I purchased my own and trained him. None of that
time included very much learning about the breed itself. I have also become
involved with a great bunch of individuals in Santa Maria, Ca. Although at
the time of joining the Santa Maria/San Luis Bay GSDC, I had very little
interest in conformation showing. After we lost him, we were lucky enough
tofind a pet quality male GSD. Lance was suppose to go in the show ring,
except he was monorchid. Kathy and I now have a 4 1/2 month old puppy bitch.
She is gorgeous, and should do well in the show ring.
The purpose of writing all that is to point out that the GSD breed has
filled a pretty large hole in our hearts and a sizable hole in our
household.A different breed may fill those voids, but IMO, the one GSD fills
it totally, and the second one just makes the heart larger. It also does not
matter what type of sport we choose to take part in. Whether it is
Schutzhund, Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Herding, agility or service type
work, the GSD does it all. I also feel that the PC has to a certain extent,
helped make the GSD what it is today. If people would like the breed and the
PC to continue to survive, they need to support it. The $69.00 a year is
nothing in comparison to what I receive back in terms of companionship, dogs
and great friends combined. The only way to support the PC, I believe, is
through membership and the National Specialty(not sure of anymore).
We also need to continue to support our Regional and the all breed club
shows when we can.
