While I'm sure intentions were good, this was not a good motion. We should have
limited our expenses for a National to a percentage of income. Then we have the
National in whatever part of the country it was supposed to be but limit our
expenses which may mean we have to be outside. I do not accept that we can't
put on a great National and still limit our expenses.
Closed sessions: Sometimes they are necessary. If it means protecting the club
from legal action, it sometimes is necessary. However, I do not believe the
selection of our National show site should ever be decided in closed session
and I have voiced that opinion. In addition, I do not personally see any reason
to abstain from voting on this issue. We as board members need to stand up, and
be ready to deal with it and make it work...and we can.

Sorry; this is long but necessary to get back on track.
At The July BOD meeting the following motion was presented by Larry Rock. "I
move the German Shepherd Dog Club of America holds it's National Specialty
Shows at The Purina Show site in Gray Summit, Missouri from 2018 onward until
such time as the member's net asset position is at or above the 2009 level of
$583,000." Motion passed.
I voted "no" and also suggested that we set a budget; allowing The GSDCA to
continue to look for show sites on the West and East Coast that meet the budget
and P & P criteria.
I FULLY PLAN to bring this back up at The JANUARY meeting (new BOD); and turn
the decision to stay at Purina on it's head.
I HIGHLY recommend that members take the initiative and look for sites that we
can afford and meet the criteria necessary. Changing the P & P is not the
problem; we first need to reverse the decision made at the last BOD. If members
would do some homework and provide some alternatives; this would be a BIG help
in January. It is obvious that we need to be looking years ahead to reserve
show sites on the West and East Coast.
I hope this helps.
I will also add that throwing every BOD under the bus with a broad paint brush
stroke is unfair.
Feel free to call me if you have any questions on how I voted. 404-936-5136.
