Okay, you guys asked me to please post the results of the responses I
got about my question what it would cost a good dog to finish their
championship today and heres the answers. Please take into
consideration these are averages and some are figuring in expenses and
some were not.

$650 a point
Average: $10,000
Owner shows the dog themselves $1,500 for one and $4,000 for the other.
Liked it better this way and found it more fun.
$1,000 a month going the All-Breed shows if the handler takes them and
trains them.
$1,800 owner showed part of the time and the other points was put on
with NOT a TOP handler.
$2,000 owner handled.
$500 a point.
$100 owner handled.
$1,000 a point.
Top kennel showing a few dogs a year, $35,000.
$2,000.
$9,500
$5,000
$7,770 for 35 shows.
Then someone said they didn't want to know how much they spent because
they might stop showing!

So there you have it. Some figured in entry fees, expenses and then the
handling fees. Others just the handling fees. Lets not forget what it
cost to feed the show dogs the top food, supplements, coat conditioners,
shampoos, conditioners, hair blowers, grooming tables, some special bath
tubs, etc.

Unless you show your own dog like some people do very successfully, this
is a "rich man's sport", no? Personally speaking, I would look at my
dog honestly and give him or her a CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SHOWS to see how
they do. If they were not consistently in the top part of their class
and winning some of those classes, then I would discontinue showing
them. I would not drag my dog from one show to another every week end
until they made their championship. I would give them a cut off point.
Some people will continue no matter what. IMHO, if it takes a lot of
shows to finish a dog, I would question just how good that dog really
is. No I haven't figured out yet how many shows equals a lot of shows!
LOL! I would take that money, and spend it on another dog that could
finish easier. Thanks to all who participated in this. Barbara Galasso
