Maurice Sendak died this morning — he was 83.

He's best-known for having written and illustrated Where the Wild Things Are.

He was a lover of German Shepherd Dogs, and his books Outside Over there and
Dear Mili feature his GSDs Erda, Aggie and Runge, whom he got as a puppy from
the Monks of New Skete.

The monks write about Sendak and Runge on pages 245-254 in The Art of Raising a
Puppy.
