Most of these members are the Breeder/ Exhibitors and hard working
members of local Specialty Clubs as well as dues paying members of the
GSDCA, Inc. They are the very backbone of the GSDCA, Inc.
Maybe it is time we admitted this is no longer true. If conformation does
not support the GSDCA, then someone or something else should take it's
place.
What we have is a lack of respect for the total membership in a need to
build the treasury. That may even be a rational decision, only the future of
our club will tell. Certainly what it has caused is a lot of failure to
bring dogs to St. Louis.
In my own case, we have two bitches who are due to be bred this week. We
had arranged to fly them to the National as freight, and arranged for
breedings, but in the end, the arrangements were too difficult, so there will
be
no breedings.
Now, we have people waiting for puppies. This is not only a loss to the
public, but a loss of income to the club. It is a loss of future members,
and future support for the club.
This is a slow decline, showing up first in Canada this year with the
entry at their National, and soon to be developed in the United States. Maybe
that is just a natural result of our sport. But, it appears to be also a
result of the needs of our board, and the decision to ignore the best
interest of the entire members.
I am not going to criticize the board. Maybe they are doing the right
thing. For me, as just one of the "little people", I no longer can bring a
dog
to the National. With Caroline in the same position, and the loss of West
Coast breeders, the future of our club does not look good.
