I love the mind, the independence, the almost wildness of them.
I love the glare they give to stop you in your tracks, I love the size, and
the incredible speed and
agility, even at 125-175 lbs. I love the territorialism,
of....everything/everyone on their place. They "own"
the car, the family, the livestock , the other dogs, and anything else that
comes under their protection.
I love the antiquity of the breed. I love the immense gentleness to family,
and livestock and the equal and
opposite ferocity towards threatening strangers.
The Guardian breeds fascinate me, I study the Ovtcharka (all three
varieties , but my fav is the Kavkaskaya)
history, down from Russia, the Siberian Gate, Red Star Kennels,
through Europe and Poland. I am
pleased to be in contact with one of the world's premier breeders , a family
with a kennel in Poland and one in
Italy. They bred my bitch's mother and her grandsire was one of the most
impressive individuals ever seen
Awesome people, totally dedicated to preserving the old characteristics,
and quality, and correct
temperament for the breed. The Russians can't even come close to their dogs
in competition.
I love the Ovtcharkas because they are not for everyone, maybe not for
most...but definently for me.
That and great GSDs in the house. What a dynamic combination.
