Bottomline...if you want to win Westminster...do not come to the ring with a
herding dog (the herding group has only been around since 1983 but herding dogs
have shown from the beginning)....they have won exactly 4 times (the last time
being Manhatten) in all 140 years of Westminster....The fox terrier as a
standalone breed has won 18 times...I suspect this has everything to do with
the BIS judges and their history with certain breeds and very little to do with
picking the best dog in the line up otherwise the wins would be more evenly
dispersed.

This judges approach to Rumor is in accordance with a specific request that the
GSDCA made to the AKC judges Dept. That is, please do some type of temperament
test on GSDs. This was requested after the parent club started requiring
national and futurity judges do a temperament test on all entries. Not all all
breed judges do as requested but if you watched the breed judging, Monday, he
checked the temperament on all entries. The type of testing is up to each
individual judge. D.D.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Judging Westminster
The esteemed judge selected has judged all over the world and is highly
thought of. He is also a well known medical doctor. Over the last 6 years, he
has chosen to judge 4 all breed shows a year in Canada it appears. I would
be ever so grateful to know if he has EVER awarded Group 1st or Best in Show
to a German Shepherd. His apparent lack of confidence on the approach made
me wonder about this. I also find it highly amusing that some people in the
breed lay in wait to bash the sender of any post that has controversy. They
so enjoy attempting to discredit the opinion of others but only seek in
reinforcing their only small status again. German Shepherds are my true love
in life. As a passionate person, I react passionately. Now on to another
day. Helen Franklin
