I will add one more thing.  Just an owner handler is not going to get  it.  
You have to have a good dog. For years I did not win a point. I  watched, 
copied and learned. Finally I had a better dog/bitch, (Dragon-slayer  and 
Destiny), and started to win. I won a lot, finished a number of dogs,  showed 
to Select a couple of times, and then I got old.
 
Now I have found a nine year old girl who is going to handle my dogs.   It 
is fun for me again, and she is enjoying it. So far she has pointed my new  
male and might even finish her first champion.
 
It is not so much the handler, as the quality of the entry.  Never  lose 
sight of the fact that a great dog will win no matter who is on the lead. A  
good dog can win with a good handler.  A poor dog will seldom win, but even  
a broken clock is right twice a day.
 
Winning is how you keep score.  The better the dog the more you will  win. 
But to have fun and enjoy the sport, it is your attitude, your approach and  
the friends you make.  Winning is just one part of it.
