you are correct, kay. BOB and BOS do NOT automatically get GC points.
here it is, quoted, from AKC:
"At the judge's discretion, Grand Champion points may be awarded to:
1. BOB or BOV
2. BOS
3. Select Dog
4. Select Bitch"
the operative words here are "discretion" and "may" - NOTHING is automatic.
