[ SHOWGSD-L ] Help with SBIO

I need some input to help my old gal (11 years) that is battling small bowel
intestinal overgrowth.
She had been put on two different antibiotics for many weeks to treat a
difficult gum infection and I believe that is what triggered this. We have
done just about every test you can think of and no, she does not have EPI, but
does have results that prove an absorption problem. She has chronic diarrhea
and severe weight loss, but other than that she is bright, happy and very
strong. Eating and drinking OK. Ultrasound was done and no masses found.
Stools were checked, many blood tests and two stays at the Vet for rehydration.
We have tried all the usual treatments with no real success so far. The Vet put
her on a prescription diet that made matters worse because it was chicken based
and that made her looser. Steroids made her worse, which I have recently read
would be the case in SBIO. She is currently on another prescription diet and a
cobalamine supplement that has other ingredients to help heal the intestine.
This diet is actually for allergic problems and has no meat source at all. She
seems to do pretty well if I add hamburg and rice, but I would like to get her
back on a better food...probably low fat for better digestion? Any suggestions
for helping her through this or advice on food would be so helpful. My Vet is
at a loss for what to do and this girl is such a fighter... I can't stand to
see her in any distress and will try whatever it takes.
My next move is a Specialist if we just can't get this resolved. Thanks in
advance for any help or advice!
