As with all macrocyclic lactones, dogs who are ABCB1 (formerly MDR1)
affected or sensitive carriers have difficulty taking them, including
Sentinel & Sentinel Spectrum (the latter also controls tapeworms).
Typically, the dosage rates in the dog labeled products are not a problem
for all but the most sensitive of dogs. There IS a genetic test available
(my dogs were part of the research to develop the test), but one will not
know if their carrier is sensitive unless they have issues from being given
those macrocyclic lactones first. (Bummer!) Thankfully, Lufrenuron is a
very safe flea egg/larvae inhibitor that is still very effective despite
the flea resistance to some adultacides. Pyrantel is mostly useless these
days, even against roundworms unfortunately; we don't even bother with
pyrantel at all at the clinic I work at. The only difference between the
Sentinel flavor tabs and Sentinel Spectrum is the addition of praziquantel
for tapeworms; the Spectrum is also a beef flavored chewable
