Somebody has to have an alternative viewpoint, right? The Grand Champion thing
reminds me of the sports leagues for little kids in which everyone gets a
trophy and a ribbon. Great for little kids, but at dog shows, not so hot. A
good one is a good one. Those that know what a good one is know one when they
see it. That's it. Those that aren't sure will feel better when they can say,"
My Grand Champion". Ego rules, as always. Most of these GCs will be crowned at
all-breed shows,so a lot of mediocre Palookas who finished under mediocre
judges will now eventually be Grand Palookas. Count on it. Will the Grand
Champion title in any way improve our breed? I say no. Fact is the whole thing
is really more about the AKC establishing new revenue streams for itself than
anything else.
