I prefer to look at it this way. First of all, these were all outstanding
dogs. Secondly, Rumor was perfect. Thirdly, if Rumor had won, all the BYB
would have had a field day selling ‘Rumor type’ GSD’s when we all know that
they aren’t even close so we’ve averted that horror story. Fourthly, Dr.
Meen is a Borzoi breeder and perhaps that Borzoi fit her standard to
perfection. He is also a Skye Terrier breeder and must have found some
fault with that dog. Fifthly, the GSP is not a dog for everyone and there
will be repercussions to this dog winning in a lot of nasty tempered GSP’s
heading for homes that cannot handle them. The GSP was also an outstanding
example.
Those who watched know that Rumor should have won...she loses nothing in my
estimation by not getting that ribbon. I consider it a gift to our breed
that those who noticed her will appreciate a good GSD and those who didn’t
notice her, don’t deserve a GSD.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] German shorthair wins BIS
I tuned in just as BIS came on. Kent looked great and Rumor could not have
been more perfect.
I have said for years that a BIS or often even a group judge does not know
the standard of each dog. They judge them against each other, and don't
follow the standards. Rumor is about as close to our standard as a German
shepherd can get.
But, that is why dog shows are always interesting. She was magnificent, and
in keeping with what I said above, I don't know the standards of the other
dogs, all l know is that Rumor is as good as it gets.
Did that judge know the standard of the GSD, I doubt it.
