Because you do accommodate ( you being most specialty show secretaries) and
bend over backwards to take entries. In fact, if a major is needed, a lot of
clubs take entries AFTER closing. I am not saying this is right or wrong,
it is just a fact.
and I would bet a LOT of people do use credit cards and make last minute
entries at all breed shows also. Sometimes it is only at the last minute that
you can get a commitment from a handler. And yes we pay $4.00 more an entry
to
do this.
Our club in the past had secretaries who would not take late entries. And
guess what, after some folks missed one year, they got their entries in on
time. Or they did not come.
Entries are even harder for clubs to come by today because of the cost of
traveling.
I have not been a show secretary for 20 years, and would NOT choose to do it
again. BUT, if I did, I would be available the last three days for phone
calls or at the least have a message on my phone of who to call. That is a no
brainer! And it is common courtesy.
Just my opinion and with my opinon and 50 cents you can still make a phone
call if you can find a pay phone.
