I would suggest taping his ears to hold them up while the cartilage heals or
it may heal with a fold in it. I have a 4 month old pup that got his ear
torn last week, he had it stitched.. the vet told me cartilage doesn't heal
together, but that it needs to 'scar" and grow over each edge.. so you may
have a small lump of cartilage where it overlaps in there..
Of course, right now is when their ears go up and down and all around
anyway, so if the ear hurts him at all he may not try to hold it up
either..my fear is that he wouldn't try to hold it up..at least if you tape
them you are giving it the very best chance you can..
good luck!!

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Ear Injury Advice

> We have a 5 month old pup who's ears came up on their own and were strong
and beautifully set. Came home over a week ago to find one ear hanging with
a puncture type of injury near the center of the ear with dried blood on
both sides yet the entire ear was still intact with no pieces missing.
We're unsure if one of the other dogs grabbed it through the fence or if she
may have caught it on the fence while trying to dig under (she's kenneled
while we're at work).

wound with topical medication and oral antibiotics so the wound is healing
but the ear is still flat. I'm curious if anyone else has ever experienced
this type of injury and if they had success getting the ear to restand. I'm
unsure if I should I wait and see if the ear stands once it fully heals or
if I should try to brace it up during the healing process? Any advice would
be appreciated because it will be a shame if the ear doesn't come back up on
this beautiful pup.
