STRATFORD -- A nationally recognized German shepherd breeder,  
convicted in 2008 of stealing a Norwalk couple's dog because they were  
going to neuter it, was arrested Friday after police said they found  
more than a dozen of the pure bred dogs malnourished and living in  
filthy conditions in her home.

Dawn Marie Pieger, 47, of West Broad Street, was charged with multiple  
counts of cruelty to animals. She was released on a promise to appear  
in court pending arraignment in Superior Court on Dec. 14.

Pieger is the owner of Von Wymar German shepherds.

According to police, based on previous complaints, on Oct. 26,  
officers served a search warrant at Pieger's home.
