I sent in DNA parentage tests for my dual-sired litter to double check AKC's
results and they matched (and this lab also does more markers than AKC). I
also sent in Coat Factor tests at the same time (they give a discount on
multiple tests on the same dog) and they correctly identified the long coats
in the litter.
As far as the DM test goes, a lot of people don't have confidence in it yet.
I guess we just don't have enough validation and, apparently, many dogs who
test affected don't ever develop symptoms. And there also appears to be a
problem with misdiagnosis at times. Nevertheless, it is probably wise to
give it some consideration in breeding, i.e. not double up on
carrier/affected unless there are other compelling reasons to do so.
