I've told this story many items before.. but it is still funny to me!!
waay back in 1995 my daughter and I were at the Canadian national with my
soon to be Maturity Victor Sel.CH. Gyro..
He was a gorgeous dog, gorgeous pigment, but... he had a lot of red and grey
hairs in his croup. "someone" who shall remain nameless, said I should get a
product called "Black Out" and color his croup. So, I did. It isn't really
dye, but a spray on color. My handler shook his head and said, "just don't
do ANYTHING that is going to embarrass me!!". My daughter and I bathed him,
dried him and proceeded to "do the deed". Well, I sure don't know how it is
supposed to be done, but when it was dry, I ran my hand over his croup.. and
my hand turned black!!! I freaked out at the image in my mind of Walter
Falk's hands turning black when he went over him and my handler's reaction!
The futurity animals were in the ring and NOW I had a problem!! I had to get
that stuff off and I hoped to do it before anyone caught me. I took him
inside and shampooed him again. As expected, the rinse water ran off black,
purple and every shade in between. As I was bend over I saw 2 pairs of shoes
come over and stop - obviously someone was watching this spectacle. I
sheepishly looked up to see a good friend and her father - whew!! I wasn't
busted after all.
We got him re-groomed, he went into the ring - his croup au naturel - and
gaited his way to MV. That was my one and only attempt at "color
enhancement" and trust me, the stress was way too great to ever want to try
it again!! LOL!
