Trainers and friends:
I am on several internet lists that monitor anti-dog legislation. Have
you been watching what has been happening in Florida? Mandatory spay
and neuter laws, then when all the breeders were registered and
identified, the county issued a limit of either six or nine dogs, max,
and breeders have 30 days to get rid of all of their other dogs.
Now, they are forming citizens groups of volunteers who will patrol
neighborhoods, looking for violators of pet laws, anything they think is
abuse, or opposition to these new laws. As we saw with the Denver pit
bull ban, Florida dogs being are seized without any due process.
Florida bears watching, because there is a progression there that may
follow in much of the country. (There are at least two counties involved.)
Here's a link to the application for the Palm Beach 'Citizen's Animal
Patrol'. This is truly scary and has the potential to backfire in a big
way. Think of the legal, ethical, social and moral consequences of
neighbors spying on neighbors.....
Is this what our Lincoln city council has in mind to follow from the
establishment of a mandatory spay/neuter program, currently under
consideration? We need to pay attention, and monitor how far these
policies are going to extend.
