BC and VC. There is mycoplasma everywhere and unless the VC comes back w/
a disproportionate amount of something I don't sweat it. Neither the male
or female reproductive tract is supposed to be sterile.
The pH in a bitch's vagina changes as she nears ovulation and if you have
ever looked at slides, you will see a slide that looks like grand central
station, teaming w/ life before ovulation, then as ovulation draws near and
the cervix softens...nothing as far as bacteria. So...may times people do a
test 10+ days out and are SHOCKED at what comes back...when it's all
normal.
So....why then would you treat w/ antibiotics just 'cuz? And please,
because that's how someone did it 20+ years ago isn't a good answer.
If anyone doesn't know how to read a VC result, the answer isn't to start
throwing abx at the bitch, plz find a good repro vet.
I don't do antibiotics w/o knowing what, IF anything needs to be treated,
cultures are done so that we know which antibiotic, and then I would skip,
get my bitch "right" and try next time. (And IF I had to keep a bitch on
abx to get her pregnant I would be concerned as to the "why". Perhaps an
immune issue? Have there been other signs of trouble, hot spots, ear
infections, UTI's? If so, not a candidate for breeding in my book.)
I have worked w/ some of the best and indiscriminate use of antibiotics
does more harm than good, i.e. bitches re growing an abundance, (e.coli,
b-streph), when RX stopped, possibly reabsorbing, lost puppies etc.

I want to know what tests you give on your bitches and/or males) when
youââ¬â¢re going to do a breeding.à What I do is have the vet run a
mycoplasma test on both (there seems to be mycoplasma everywhere), run a
brucellosis culture and start the bitch on amoxicillin the day she goes
into
season.Ã I also give colloidal silver to keep the immune system healthy.Ã
Is there anything else I should be doing?
Angie is due to come in soon and I want to be fully prepared.Ã (I have
already done her preliminary hip and elbow x-rays.)
