Wow...no, hadn't heard about the girls but I DO think there are a lot of
people who either don't know how to start a boy doing natural breedings (and
he has a bad experience and decides not to try) and/or have the patience to
start a young dog.
I know we have people on the list who occasionally have issues w/ a bitch
but the only times I have run into that was when I waited too long (bitch
being shown). Life lesson learned...
Boys who live here learn to breed a bitch naturally, on my terms (i.e. w/
the bitch over my knee with a MINIMUM of fuss) . I will NOT let a young
dog be collected and I don't care if the first (or second) time takes all
night. He has 10 minutes and if nothing is happening he and the girl get put
away for a bit then we try again.
Personally, I have had no luck w/ AIs other than trans-cervical and that
includes bitches (2) where we did progesterone using an outside lab. Not a
big fan. I wanted to strangle both of the boys lol (am I allowed to say
that???) So now I make sure if I go outside to ask the stud dog owner if a
boy will reliably breed a bitch naturally. If not, no hard feelings but
I'll pass.
I really don't have any use for the progesterone kits vets use in-house and
much prefer the extra $$$s to send it out and get an accurate reading.

problem, of breeding in the GSD breed.
From males that wont breed naturally, to bitches who, regardless of
progesterone and smear results, simply wont swell and cant be bred other

artificially, to breeders who have absolutely no luck with Artificial
Insemination.
I am curious to hear how many are experiencing this. According to Helen
Gleason, a top reproductive specialist told her that well over 70% of the
breeding stock is suffering from one issue or the other.
