There are a number of by-law proposals in the newly mailed ballot. I
cannot speak to all of them but I will explain and ask for your support for
those relating to Membership. As Membership Chair, I have been asking for
these changes for quite a while, but changing our by-laws is a tedious and
somewhat expensive process which requires (as it should be) approval from AKC
and our membership.
The GSDCA Membership Code of Conduct. For quite a while our members have
been asking for a definition of responsibilities and a code of behavior for
GSDCA members. A committee was formed to develop a Code of Conduct that
would apply to all members - it is expected that a re-vamped Breeders Code
of Ethics will work hand-in-hand with this new Code of Conduct.
Lifetime Membership. I asked to add this new class of membership with the
intent of showing appreciation to those who have for so many years
supported our organization. It is my hope to make this a "no-dues" or "reduced
dues" membership class - something that will be most helpful to some of our
aging members with limited income.
Lapsing Membership Grace Period. This change, if approved, will allow
members who for some reason did not pay their dues by the December 31
deadline, ninety days to be reinstated without losing their "continuity" of
membership. It will give the Membership Chair time to send out reminder notices
and our members the opportunity to take action. Please note that this is
NOT retroactive and will not apply to past years' renewal issues.
