In the past we donated six dogs to Guide Dogs For The Blind in San Rafael.
At that
time
Keasberry was the one that went out "in the field" and tested the dogs and
accepted
them.
All that we offered became great Guide Dogs. They were using dogs from
Breeders......ALL
that we saw during Graduation exercies were GSD's and an occasional black Lab.
( it's a goose bump experience to watch your puppies graduate and go to their
new
blind owner )
Years later I went back with a friend to take her kids through the school. I
noticed MANY
spooky temperaments in young pups that we saw there. I talked to one of the
employees and
they said they had begun their own breeding program and had high hopes as they
would
have
more available than waiting for Breeders to donate. It was very discouraging
to see
the results
of what they were breeding. I don't recall seeing ONE sound German Shepherd
Dog that
day!!
A couple of years ago I called the school ........ they no longer used German
Shepherd Dogs
but had started using Goldens and Golden Labs ONLY..... because they had so
many
problems
with the GSD temperament.
From what I could tell.......their problems began with THEIR breeding
program....not
the Breed.
That's our take on what happened to the use of GSD's.........because until they
started doing
their own breeding.....they were using almost all German Shepherd Dogs.
