Yes, I have been posting about this, but have only received a couple of
replies. Apathy will eventually kill our beautiful breed.
Have written letters to every city council member and am scheduled to talk
to city council on the 20th. The vote tomorrow is not the biggest issue.
Yes, everything you said about the horrible restrictions are true. BUT..the
biggest problem is not Title 7 the animal ordinance. On the 20th of
December another amendment to the city ordinance is scheduled for public
comment. It will revise the City Code concerning the Zoning of Kennels and
will effecively ban breeding of ANY ANIMAL within the city limits. What the
change does is classify ANYONE WHO BREEDS OR SELLS ANY ANIMAL as a kennel
and subject to the very restrictive zoning laws concerning kennels, ie; a
minimum of 6 acres of land, 350 set back from the public road, and only gets
worse from there. To make matters worse, the amendment changes the current
word of "Dogs and Cats" concerning kennels to "Animals" making the breeding
of virtually everything from cats and dogs to horses to gold fish illegal
unless you can obtain a kennel license.
PLEASE!!! EVERYONE TAKE JUST A MINUTE AND WRITE JUST ONE OF THESE COUNCEL
MEMBERS. I can tell you that Melina Castro, Ann Morgan Lilly, and
Alejandro Lozano probably are against these proposed ordinances..so
concentrate on the others. THEY ARE NOT VOTING NEXT WEEK...THEY ARE VOTING
TOMORROW.
