Dear Friends of the Animals - Long story - short version. Ben went on vacation and the Police Department (since it is a city pound) was supposed to feed and water the animals. Apparently, they didn't - or, if they did, it was not adequate. Several dogs and cats died from starvation/dehydrat ion - among which were a Boxer (which had to be put down because of its starved condition), a purebred Jack Russell and two cats. Others were so sick they had to be euthanized. The vet is coming tomorrow (Friday) to put down others. Their web site is: http://www.petfinde r.com/shelters/ MO215.html However, the Petfinder site is not up to date. Some of the dead dogs/cats are still on there. There are two Westies that Westie rescue is trying to help; two Bloodhounds that we are told are being looked at. But, there is an awesome Rottweiler girl, several Labs, and a Pit Bull girl (about a year old, full grown and weighs only 25 lbs.) that are still alive and need a fast save. Also, there are two Mastiffs that rescue is looking at. But until they are out of there and safe, they are still in crisis. If you can help any of these remaining dogs and cats, please CALL Ben right away to put a hold on them. I have not talked with Ben, just with Tracy (in the e-mail below) and others who have talked with the folks there. First things first. The remaining animals need all the help they can get. Since it is a pound, emphasis is not placed on adoptions/rescues. Ben and Tracy and the handful of other volunteers do their best to save as many as they can - but they do not have the support of City Council or the local media. Given the circumstances, it is probably fair to say the Police Department doesn't feel responsible for what happened in Ben's absence. We will need to network together on transportation for the animals being rescued. This is such a tragedy and is totally without excuse and should never have happened. But, there are still animals that need our attention. Both Ben and Tracy are willing to help in whatever way they can. Let's roll up our sleeves, folks, and see what we can do to help save these remaining FRIENDS.
