Medical Progress in the News
Two great articles in major media outlets emphasize the ongoing  
importance of animal research to human and animal health:
The New York Times reports that a Cedars-Sinai neuroscientist and  
veterinarians in Los Angeles have taken an operation commonly  
performed to remove brain tumors from the pituitary glands of humans  
and made it available to animals.  Thus far nine dogs and one cat with  
Cushing's disease who otherwise would have died have been treated  
successfully - in the words of the Cedars-Sinai press release the dogs  
are 'living to bark about it' and the cat 'has been given a new lease  
on one of its nine lives.'

But that's not all: tissue samples from the treated animals are  
returned to Cedars-Sinai's Adam Mamelak for research that enable him  
and his colleagues to develop drugs that might one day treat Cushing's  
disease in both people and animals.
