I wondered why they dropped the idea. I thought it was a good idea, though I
can see the club's perspective as well.
I like the Gr Champion idea, I am just not sure if it will work. I hope it
does though. We need more entries.

Cathy left out that the AKC expects to add 50 new breeds within the next 5
years...and they don't know where to put them. More than designer
breeds...........these are breeds, some, anyway, rare in their own
countries......but we'll have 'em, thank you.
Rumour has it that once the sporting and hound groups are divided,
they'll go after the working group anyway............so 10 groups may not be
the end.........we may end up with 11 or 12...
I understand that the Board withdrew the proposal because they were
suddenly assured it wasn't going to fly right now...not just
because people don't like changes (which is the AKC's view) but because
clubs really don't understand how they are supposed
to afford it. Clubs that are having trouble holding their own, even some
clubs that have been around for more than 50 years, are
looking at folding...they just can't afford it. Entries keep going down,
and the number of shows keeps increasing...that's in the
Board minutes after every meeting.
I guess the changes will come, anyway, eventually............not every
brilliant idea dies as quickly as the one that had the AKC
in charge of frozen semen of famous dogs...........which idea disappeared
even more quickly than it came!!!
Personally, I'm waiting to see if the Grand Champion title increases
show entries..............Cathy and I are of differing opinions
on this...she thinks it will encourage people to keep showing...which is the
AKC's idea...but I think they could continue now, if
they wanted to...........and another title doesn't seem to sound that good
to a lot of people, especially when all it means is that
you could afford to keep going and going, even when you never win a breed.
