I know with the mess from the 39 dogs in NY the 7 GSD's that were seized is
mall. Here is the update 10 weeks after they were picked up.
Mr Simmie Gardner was arrested, spent several days in jail (wish they had
ut him into the conditions the dogs were living in) and had his 1st day in
ourt yesterday. He pleaded not guilty was released on bail and will have
nother court date in about a month. The DA wants it to be a restitution
ase (if he goes to jail there will be no money paid toward the expenses
veryone has incurred) where he will have to pay all expenses for the dogs,
ourt cost and all the other expenses tied to the case.
Now for the good news. All of the dogs have gained weight, have nice coats
healthy skin, have become much more social as you can now handle them but
couple are still not sure of new people and still a little skittish. It
ook 2 rounds of 3 days of Panacur to clear up all the worms, stools now
how no bacteria, giardia or coccidia and all but one are normal (we may
est her for EPI). We got pieces of gloves, shoes, hose, black pipe
nsulation and things we have no idea what it was out of them over a period
f a month.
Everyone has gained between 8 & 11 pounds, putting them up to 43 lbs and 63
bs for adults that should be between 60 and 80.
The younger dogs have all gone to their forever homes. The older four; 3
irls & 1 boy are still looking for that special person to love them
orever.
All the dogs crate trained and housebroke very easy after a week or so of
eing clean and in clean surroundings. It took multiple baths to get the
dor to go away from their living conditions as it had permeated the skin.
Thank you for dog food & weight circles to help with expenses. AGSRA also
ade several donations to help with some of the expenses.

On Dec 12th a call came in from an animal services officer to a GSD Rescue
hat he needed assistance for a backyard breeder who's dogs were being
eized for neglect. On Dec 13th the dogs were picked up by the rescue and
he animal services officer and taken to the vet for examinations then went
o the rescues home to begin their long term rehab until the judge signed
he transfer of ownership to Rescue. We then had to set up the transport to
ring them here as that rescue was not set up to handle the number or
ondition of these dogs.
These were all adult GSD's from approximately 1 to 2 years old for the
ounger ones, adults between 3 and 4 and the old girl that is 6 to 8 years
f age.
These dogs weighted in between 35 and 52 pounds, all between 20 & 35 pounds
nder weight. In the exam they all had fleas (treated), ear mites (treated)
apeworms, hookworms, whipworms, roundworms (treated with 3 days of
anacur), high bacteria (being treated with Flagyl) and heartworm positive.
t took several days of eating multiple small meals for any stools to be
roduced. They have received their 1st vaccines and as they improve will
eceive another.
These dogs appears to have not had any or very little human contact, the
ounger dogs are responding to the attention but the older dogs are slowly
arming up after many hours of sitting on the ground and putting treats
cooked chicken chunks and cheddar cheese chunks) on our legs for them to
ome and get for a touch. Fast movements spook them but they are gaining
onfidence, they are not afraid of thunder or fireworks and never once have
ttempted to bite anyone with everything they have been thru.
The kennel runs were caked with urine soaked feces, chewed up plastic, wood,
ires, etc. but no food or water was found on the property. There had been
trailer on the property that was removed & it was that crew that notified
nimal services about the dogs.
The dogs are slowly gaining weight, beginning their 2nd round of 3 days of
anacur, receiving Flagyl and have been treated for fleas. They are
eceiving 3 meals a day (a corn, soy & wheat free food plus some raw and
ard boiled eggs) and a bedtime snack of chicken, rice & yogurt. Stools are
inally looking normal and they are slowing down on their eating with the
elp of the slow feed bowls and hand feeding.
They have all had a bath which took several rounds of shampoo to get any
uds and we can now see their skin which is beginning to heal.
The two dogs that were in the worst condition are each in a foster home
here they are getting good grocery's, individual care, socialization,
onfidence building and lots of TLC.
The owner has warrants out for his arrest for the condition of these dogs
nd deceased dogs found on the property.
I do have photos if anyone is interested from the day they were seized to
urrent ones. Most of the dogs are here with me or my foster homes and the
ldest female is with a rescue volunteer that will give her a forever home.
