George, We already have a 6m antenna, one that seems to work fine- although it's not the best model on the planet. Unfortunately, we don't have room to put as many antennas as we'd like to, and we don't have carte blanche to deploy antennas all over the roof. It's a built-up roof that has insulation beneath it, and any penetrations through it will likely cause leaks. Ideally, antennas should be on masts secured to the outside walls or on nearby poles or towers. I consider the cinder block-weighted antenna mount to be temporary and a proof of concept that should find a permanent home before the roof is damaged. The Board should rule on adding new antennas, and if warranted, appoint a committee to make recommendations. It's really not my call to decide how many antennas, or what bands and polarization they should be. My job is to protect the integrity of the real estate. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY -----Original Message----- From: sarcmembers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:sarcmembers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of george bernard Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2009 8:46 AM To: sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [sarcmembers] Re: 6m Antenna at SARC Clubhouse eric, i had a 6 mtr antenna on order along with digital amplified speakers - but when dave dowler started in on me - i just cancelled all the orders. how are we going to get a 6 mtr antenna? is someone going to donate one? or are we going to use my log periodic, the one i purchased before the dowler fiasco? regards, george bernard w6nre 818-370-9407 -----Original Message----- From: Eric Lemmon Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2009 11:05 AM To: sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [sarcmembers] 6m Antenna at SARC Clubhouse Avery, The Cushcraft R8 vertical antenna is designed to operate on 6 through 40 meters. Due to the tuning sharpness of such an antenna at 6m, it was optimized for 52.200 MHz per advice received from 6m buffs at the time of original assembly. I measured the minimum SWR of 1.8 at 52.200 MHz. The R8 antenna is not much good more than 300 kHz or so either side of the peak. Note that I have changed the subject line so that it correctly represents the topic of this message. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY -----Original Message----- From: sarcmembers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:sarcmembers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Avery Wright KD4GBA Sent: Sunday, July 26, 2009 10:47 AM To: sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [sarcmembers] Re: Portable tower maintance... Hello, This past Saturday, I lowered the portable tower to its horizontal positi= on. Please be aware of your surroundings when you are out at the club, t= he antenna elements are at eye level a could pose a hazard. The plan is to remove the warped horizontal 144MHz support masts and repl= ace them with some fiberglass tubes. These ultra-strong tubes have been = graciously provided by Bob, W6RFH.=20 Thank you Bob. Another modification is to install a video camera on the EME antenna mast= support to provide a video source to help track the moon from the confin= es of the SARC radio room. Hopefully, this eliminate the need to run outd= oors to adjust the azimuth and elevation.=20 73 John N6VMO _______________________________________________ You have received this because you are subscribed to the Satellite Amateur Radio Club Members Mailing List To post on the mailing list, simply send email to sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This mailing list will only accept email from subscribed members so SPAMMERS will not get your email address To unsubscribe, send an email to sarcmembers-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi _______________________________________________ You have received this because you are subscribed to the Satellite Amateur Radio Club Members Mailing List To post on the mailing list, simply send email to sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This mailing list will only accept email from subscribed members so SPAMMERS will not get your email address To unsubscribe, send an email to sarcmembers-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi _______________________________________________ You have received this because you are subscribed to the Satellite Amateur Radio Club Members Mailing List To post on the mailing list, simply send email to sarcmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This mailing list will only accept email from subscribed members so SPAMMERS will not get your email address To unsubscribe, send an email to sarcmembers-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field OR by logging into the Web interface at: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi
