MESSAGE FROM ST. ANDREWS MIDDLE SCHOOL:
ELIGIBILITY:
All South Carolina public or private school students entering grade 7 or 8 are
invited to apply. Applicants will be chosen based on their talent, ability, and
excitement for technology and engineering.
ABOUT CAMP SUCCESS:
Camp Success is a state-of-the-art day camp for South Carolina students
entering grade 7 or 8. The program helps students develop the creative,
innovative thinking skills that are behind all the latest technologies.
The end result is more young people who are excited about professional careers
that use 21st-century technology to solve big problems and make the world a
better place.
The creativity, innovation, and leadership cultivated at Camp Success are not
only essential tools for students to thrive as highly skilled professionals -
they are the building blocks South Carolina needs to successfully compete in
the global economy.
COST:
There is a $50 fee to apply for Camp Success. Financial aid is available to
help qualified students. Please indicate your desire for financial assistance
on the application form. For more information, please contact the college at
the camp location of your choice. All students who are selected for Camp
Success will receive a scholarship to cover the full costs of Camp Success,
including materials and meals during the week.
HOW TO APPLY:
The criteria used for acceptance will be an essay written by the student (300
to 500 words or 2 to 3 double-spaced typewritten pages) and the completed
application form. Twenty-five (25) South Carolina students entering grade 7 or
8 will be selected to participate in each camp.
SESSIONS:
Camp Success will operate two seven day sessions in the summer. Session One is
June 11 - 17 (Midlands Technical College, Enterpise Campus--located in
Northeast Columbia) and Session Two is June 18 - 24 (Orangeburg-Calhoun
Technical College--located in Orangeburg, SC). This is a day camp and parents
are responsible for all transportation.
2006 CAMP SCHEDULE:
Day 1 (Sunday)
Introductory session for students and parents to learn more about Camp Success,
the South Carolina Career Cluster System, and to begin thinking about and
recording each camper’s individual goals for success.
Days 2 – 6 (Monday – Friday)
Alternating schedule of Discovery Workshops, learning lab activities, teamwork
on Creative Community Design Projects, field trips and recreational activities
will take place each day. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Day 7 (Saturday)
Closing celebration for parents and students and awards presentation from 9:00
a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
