We had a great Star Party last Thursday at the S. Mtn Educ Center. About 60
people came out to observe and 5 or 6 scopes. A crescent Moon and a
crescent Venus were the crowd pleasers, with Mars a small curiosity. What
excellent facilities too! Thx to all who came out. Can't wait til the
Thunderbird Star Party April 29!

Please join us for a Public Star Party on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:30
- 8:00 pm. It will be held at the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation at
the South Mountain Environmental Education Center. Quite a mouthful! We'll
just call it the SMEEC. It's located at 10409 S. Central, Phoenix, AZ
85042.
We will set up for public viewing on the tarmac at the Visitor's Center
just inside the Park entrance. The center is at 10409 S. Central, which
is just inside the Central Ave South Mountain Park entrance. They have just
become part of the Phoenix Zoo administration.
Drive south on Central until the road becomes the South Mountain Park
entrance road, taking you to the main entry gate. Just past the stop sign
for that entrance, take a left. The South Mountain Environmental
Education Center is on the right. As you enter the parking lot, there will
be a gravel path at the sidewalk you may take that goes around the N side
of the building to the set-up area, or just park in the parking lot if not
unloading.

We would like to host another star party here at the South Mountain
Environmental Education Center. The viewing is actually really good! Part
of our hope is to get folks from the community to our buildings to realize
we’re open again and offering lots of great learning opportunities. It’d be
so wonderful to have SAC helping us to do that!
